For the Zennials that may vaguely familiar with the Battle Rap Genre, Google defines Battle rap as a type of rapping that includes bragging, insults and boasting content. Battling can occur on recorded albums, though rap battles are often recited or freestyled spontaneously in live battles, "where MCs will perform on the same stage to see who has the better verses". The Battle Rap scene and Freestyle Battle Rap competitions aren't as prevalent in hip hop culture as they were back in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, however there are many outlets and small underground venues that continue to host live battle rap sessions. Now in 2021 the growing podcast and media platform The J-0 Podcast continues to keep the genre alive by frequently showcasing up and coming battle rappers on their platform as well as hosting live battle rap competitions on the air. The battles are hosted by Jordan "J-0" Hunter and are available to stream on the Anchor App, iTunes, and Google Podcasts!
